Jakson Paterson
Jakson is a PhD Candidate with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He joined the Engineering Health team in 2021 and has developed the Pedestrian Safety Evaluation system as part of his thesis.
Jakson’s research has focused on pedestrian movement, behavioral observation, and computer vision, providing a real‑world lens into the challenges that limit accessibility, independence, and autonomy for older adults and people with disabilities. Working in urban environments has been foundational to his understanding of how design decisions, often made without inclusive intent, directly impact safety, usability, and quality of life.
